Welcome to the homepage of Jeff Shoffner’s Fencing Academy. Yep, still trying to figure out a better name for the website, but until then, it stays. The first page will become more of a reference to other pages.
So, have you found this site while trying to find a place to learn to fence? Well, I do teach two classes; one in West Knox, one in Blount County. The next terms will begin in Mid January in which I will be more than happy to pick up new students. Blount County's classes will start Jan. 13th, while in West Knox we'll start Jan. 16th. For general information on me and my classes, go here and check out the two classes and their schedules here: West Knox County Blount County
Recently, we've been holding mock tournaments at both academies. One of my students recommended the mock tournament as a means to "give the veterans something to do" and I wholeheartedly agreed with his plan. The current results are a bit thin, but what I do have I will be posting in their respective sites, hopefully with routine updates!
Finally, in an effort to get the kids more involved in how their academies are run, I've selected a couple of students at each site to be my, well, "lieutenants" seems too stuffy while "lackeys" and "underlings" seems not stuffy enough. I guess "assistants" will work for now, but perhaps we can come up with a better title in the future. At any rate, I'd like to formally thank Bryant Laney, Micah Smith, Michael Petherick and Derek Ziarkowski for stepping up and giving a helping hand. Sure, I know that sometimes it seems like all you do is keep the younger students in line, but that is a great help and that should be recognized. I actually do have something in mind to make it a more recognizable position, but with everything else happening in my life, it's been slow going. Maybe after Girl Scout cookie sales.....
